ABOUT

MARIO RIGBY

I explore the world on foot, by paddle, and by bike, documenting endurance, responsibility, and what we learn when there are no shortcuts.

Who I am

I’m an explorer and human-powered expedition leader building long-form journeys grounded in endurance, logistics, and responsibility.

I don’t chase records or spectacle.

I remove speed, convenience, and automation and move through the world under constraint.

Walking, cycling, paddling, and climbing across continents has shaped how I see progress: not as distance covered, but as attention paid.

Every expedition is designed to make consequence visible — to the body, to the land, and to the people encountered along the way.

WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE

My work is defined by:

  • Endurance over time, not speed

  • Constraint as a framework, not a limitation

  • Presence over performance

  • Responsibility over spectacle

This means long timelines, deep preparation, and planning that contends honestly with discomfort, uncertainty, and consequence.

STORYTELLING + DOCUMENTATION

The work isn’t complete when the journey ends.

I document each expedition through:

  • Documentary films that hold space for observation, not hype

  • Photography that emphasizes context over conquest

  • Written field notes and essays that reflect lived experience in real time

These stories are not constructed in hindsight they are shaped by the environments, interactions, and decisions made along the way.

Documentary films

WHAT I DO NOW

I collaborate with:

  • Brands aligned with sustainability and long-term thinking

  • Media producers seeking grounded, human-first storytelling

  • Institutions that value learning over spectacle

  • Educators interested in lived experience and systems-based insight

I also create books and films that expand the conversation around endurance, responsibility, and the real cost of human progress and exploration.

Written field notes and essays

Exploration is not distance covered. It’s attention paid to place, to people, and to consequence.

WHY HUMAN-POWER MATTERS

Modern travel obscures distance. Machines make movement easy but hide cost — energy, impact, and consequence.

By removing engines and convenience, human-powered expeditions slow everything down. They make distance and uncertainty visible. They make risk and decision-making unavoidable. They transform movement into experience, and experience into knowledge.

My work is defined by principles, not performance.

EXPERIENCE & HIGHLIGHTS

Exploration is built through practice, not performance.

Then tighten bullet formatting like this:

  • Walked the length of Africa — Cape Town to Cairo

  • Multiple ascents beyond 4,000 and 5,000 metres

  • Cycled across North America as a study in sustainable transport

  • Led human-powered projects across Africa, Canada, and the Caribbean

  • Founder of Beyond Human — a global expedition beginning 2026

Every expedition has shaped how I move, document, teach, and lead.
